Welcome to The Herald

This is where The Club keeps you posted — new features, fixes, and the occasional word on strategy. Consider it a private line to our members: notices from the table, refinements worth knowing, and the quiet counsel that turns a fair player into a formidable one. When something changes at the board, you'll read it here first. You hold a seat at a table not everyone is given. Welcome to The Club.

Update

A finer touch at the table

Pieces no longer simply appear — each one now drops onto the board and settles under its own shadow, the way it would beneath your hand. The Ranks hall has been dressed up as well: every title's card now bears its crest as a watermark, in the same style as the cards of your circle of friends. Alongside the polish, this notice carries a round of performance fixes to keep play running smoothly.

New

Adjudicators now preside over The Debrief

By order of the Club, a panel of adjudicators now presides over every Ranked match — the matches that carry weight, where Prestige is won and reputations are made. Nothing escapes their attention: every move you make is watched, weighed, and graded, from the rare Masterstroke to the Grave Error. Play accordingly. When the final square falls, you will be handed The Debrief: the adjudicators' full account of your match. It names the Turning Point where the game was won or lost, shows the stronger line you left unplayed, and leaves you with a principle to keep. Great players are not those who never err — they are those who study the account of their errors and never pay the same price twice. Find your Debrief on the result card after any Ranked match, or request one for past battles in your Match Logs. Remember, The Club is always watching.

Update

The house has been set in order

Version 1.1.0 is now live. Several rooms have been rearranged, and we owe you an account of what was moved and why. The Main Menu. The Lounge now sits at the top. Play against members across the world is the heart of this Club, and it should not have been the third thing you saw. Below it, a match against the House. Below that, two members at one table. The Rules of the Table have been moved to the foot of the menu, where they belong. They were never a mode of play. They are simply how the game is played, and they will wait there for anyone who needs them. The Board. When a square is won, the gilded marks no longer flourish. Instead, a black line is drawn through the three that took it, plainly and without ceremony. The Board should show you what happened, not congratulate you for it. The Friends screen. Each member's card now presents itself as it arrives. A small thing. Small things compound. Alongside these, a number of quieter improvements to how the app handles and how quickly it responds. Update when you have a moment. As always, if something feels wrong to you, tell us. We read everything.

Version 1.1.0

Update

The Club keeps count of your devotion

The Ledger has learned to remember. Finish every Task the Club sets upon a day's page and the day is sealed. Sealed days, kept in unbroken succession, become your Streak. From the second day, constancy is paid: a further two per cent upon everything that day's Ledger earned you. By the thirtieth, thirty. By the hundredth, the full measure, every sealed day worth double, for as long as the run endures. Understand what is being rewarded. It is not luck, which visits anyone once. It is the returning mind: the member whose openings grow quieter, whose traps close a move earlier, whose foresight lengthens with every page. We see it in your matches; now the Ledger inscribes it. Life intrudes, and the Club is not unreasonable: one missed day each month is overlooked. Miss a second, and the count begins again at one, as all worthwhile things do. And should you wish to review what your discipline has earned, the Prestige Log now stands open at Profile > Ranked Progression. There you will find every point ever entered to your name, with its cause beside it. The Club keeps honest books. A final word: if the Streak has not yet appeared at your table, your app is awaiting its update. Force-close the app completely, open it again and give it a couple of minutes, then force-close it once more. On your next visit, the new update will be waiting.

Update

Membership now open to iPhone players

Word from the front desk: The Club is now live on the Apple App Store. Every member is encouraged to extend an invitation. Go to Profile > Support & About > Share the app, and pass the link to any friend with an iPhone. It carries them straight to the App Store, and once the download is done, a seat across from you is waiting. Bring a rival; the Grand Board settles the rest.

Update

Every Guest Is Welcome

Our doors now stand open to all. Whether or not you yet carry a name among us, you're invited to take a seat, play a match at the Table, and enjoy a taste of the Club's elegance. Test your wits against the machine, or share a game with a friend at your side, and see the room for yourself. The finer privileges, however, are reserved for members. A rank of your own to bear and to raise, from Novice through the highest titles of the peerage. Prestige inscribed in your ledger with every Ranked victory. A standing place in the Club Lounge, where you may challenge friends to Friendly or Ranked matches. The daily tasks of The Ledger, which reward the diligent with further Prestige. And a record of your every triumph, kept and carried with you across all your devices. When you wish to be recognized among our ranks, create an account and take your rightful place at the Table.

Update

The Grandmaster has been reweighed

The Club has reconsidered what the Grandmaster is worth. A match won against them now carries 150 Prestige; a match drawn, 75; a match lost, 30. Nothing at the Master's table has moved. Mark the third of those figures. The loss still pays — to sit down against the Grandmaster and be beaten is held to be worth more than a comfortable win elsewhere. But it is paid only to those who play the match out. A match conceded carries nothing, and is entered as a loss regardless. Matches already played stand as they were entered, at the rate of their day. The new weight is in force from this notice forward.

New

The Club sets the day's work

The Ledger is open. Each day the Club enters as many as three Tasks upon it — a win carried on a diagonal, three corners of the Grand Board held, the measure of the Master taken. They are set for you. They are not chosen by you. Only Ranked play is entered against them: Master, Grandmaster, and Ranked matches between friends. Nothing else is recognised at this table. What you complete, the Club settles in full — a further 25 to 50 per cent upon the Prestige your matches have already earned, according to the difficulty at which the Task was set. The count is kept for you; present nothing. Five hours before the page closes, word is sent to any member whose work still stands. Should you prefer to go unreminded, the notice may be silenced at Profile → Preferences → Notifications. At midnight the page is closed as it stands, and a new one is set before morning.

New

The Club Lounge keeps your invitations

Send a friend a calling card and step away with confidence — your pending games now gather in the Club Lounge under Game Invites, whether you're the host or the one invited. Resume a match that's still drawing for the opening move, withdraw an invitation you've thought better of, and never accidentally send the same friend two cards again. And should your opponent take their seat while you're away from the table, word will reach you — in the app or out of it.

Fix

A fairer cut of the deck

The Draw Card ceremony now waits for both players to be seated before the timer begins, and quietly pauses it should either of you step away — so no one loses the draw to a dropped connection. Leave mid-draw and the game simply holds your place in the Lounge, ready to resume where you left off.

Fix

A quick update to keep Ranked play open

The Draw Card now decides who opens every match — and to keep your Ranked play uninterrupted, your app needs the latest version. If it hasn't refreshed on its own, a moment sets it right: 1. Open the app and wait a few minutes — this quietly begins the update. 2. Force-close the app completely (swipe it away). 3. Do it once more — open, wait a few minutes, then force-close again. Open it a final time and the latest version, with the Draw Card, will be ready — Ranked play restored. Downloaded the app after today? You already have the Draw Card — nothing to do here.

New

The Draw Card decides who opens

No more debating who goes first. Every match now opens with the Draw Card — a small ceremony at the table. Nine cards lie face down; each player draws one, and the higher card earns the opening move. Chance deals the first hand, and skill takes it from there. You'll find the Draw at the start of every game — against the house, or across the board from a fellow member. A fair open, every time. May the better card find you.

Update

Four more languages at the table

The Club widens its doors. Beyond English and Spanish, you may now take your seat in French, Portuguese, German, and Italian. Set your language any time from Profile > Language — and the whole Club will speak it with you.

Fix

A faster board in online play

Your move now appears the instant you make it. We've refined online Friend-vs-Friend so the board keeps pace with your hand — no more waiting on the connection, even when a fellow member is seated half a world away. Smoother play, wherever the two of you sit down.

New

The Club now speaks Spanish

Hospitality knows no borders. The Club now receives its members in Spanish — every notice, every rule of the table, in your own tongue. Choose it any time from Profile > Language. Bienvenido a la Mesa.
